Celebrations at Heswall’s café on the hill

Heswall’s Beacon Cafe will soon by celebrating 20 years.

Staffed entirely by volunteers from within the Methodist Church and the Wirral community, all profits from the café are given to charity.

The last year saw the cafe distribute a record amount of £13,410 to local, national and international charities.

The café serves coffee and home-grown food from Tuesday to Friday from 10.30am-2pm and on Saturday from 10am-12noon.

Marjorie Griffiths, from the café, said: “By just coming for coffee or a delicious lunch you can give support to so many people less fortunate that yourselves. without even realising it!  There are not many places where you can go and really enjoy delicious food, loverly surroundings, a friendly atmosphere and know that by doing so you are supporting so many worthwhile charities.

“All this happens because local people are willing to volunteer in our cafe.  If you talk to them they will tell you “I really love it” – so if you have a few hours a week to spare, or maybe are newly retired, new volunteers are always most welcome.”

Next spring the café will be celebrating its 20th birthday and special events are being planned.

Marjorie added: “Who could imagine in that time, from small beginnings, approaching £100,000 has been donated to charity and we have helped change so many lives …. “The Beacon”… the Shining Light of Heswall.”
